O Instituto de Artes e Ofícios (IAO) ministra Cursos de Artes e Ofícios da Madeira (Marcenaria/Embutidos/Talha) e Cursos de Pintura Decorativa com estágios integrados nas oficinas da Fundação Ricardo do Espírito Santo Silva. Estes cursos assentam num cruzamento de saberes teóricos, teórico-práticos e oficinais, constitutindo-se como projectos de formação de excelência que promovem as profissões ligadas ao artesanato. Pretende-se, deste modo, contribuir para a formação de artesãos capazes de sistematizar, renovar e transmitir saberes tradicionais e, consequentemente, para a renovação deste sector de actividade. Em parceria com a ESAD promove Cursos de Especialização Tecnológica na área de Conservação e Restauro. Com o objectivo de divulgar as Artes Decorativas e ofícios correlativos, alargando o âmbito da formação dos alunos e servindo públicos heterogéneos, o IAO organiza anualmente Cursos Livres. PROFESSIONAL SCHOOL IAO – Instituto de Artes e Ofícios The Instituto de Artes e Ofícios offers vocational training in the subjects of Arts and Crafts in Wood, Decorative Painting and Conservation and Restoration, in partnership with the Escola Superior de Artes Decorativas (ESAD). Through the hands of Masters and using traditional methods and techniques, students learn to construct pieces of stylish furniture, to decorate pieces with woodcarvings in high or low relief or with inlay work of exotic wood. Through the hands of Masters, students learn to work with paint and paintbrushes to use traditional techniques of decorative painting, to draw up interior or exterior design projects and to produce parietal paintings. Through the hands of Masters, they learn the art of preserving, conserving and restoring works of art, mural paintings, stuccowork and wood and furniture.
